Neighbourhoods of Gibsons: Shaw Road / Gospel Rock

Perhaps best known for its picturesque outcropping along Gower Point Road, the Gibsons neighbourhood of Shaw Road Gospel Rock combines natural beauty with the promise of future residential development.

Much of the land in Shaw and Gospel remains undeveloped, creating a striking contrast between this and much of the rest of Gibsons. However, a significant portion of this neighbourhood has been zoned for future residential expansion.

One of the highlights of Shaw and Gospel is Inglis Trail, a multi-use path that connects O’Shea-Oceanmount and Gibsons Landing. Here you’ll find two separate walking options to choose from: Your first options is a steeper trail with steps that will get your heart pumping, while a second route provides a gradually-slopping path that’s suitable for wheelchairs, bikes, and strollers.

The crown jewel of the neighbourhood is Gospel Rock. One of the most ecologically sensitive areas on the Sunshine Coast, this rocky bluff overlooks the ocean and provides panoramic views of Georgia Strait and Vancouver Island. Charmin Creek winds its way through this area before exiting to the ocean in Gibsons Harbour, and Cross Rock and Little Africa are two other popular outdoor destinations. To preserve Gospel Rock’s natural wonder, 16.6 acres of wilderness have been protected with a conservation covenant.

Kids living in Shaw & Gospel can attend class at nearby Gibsons Elementary, Ephinstone Secondary, and Sunshine Coast Alternative School. These schools are technically within walking distance from the northern part of the neighbourhood but students living closer to the ocean may find the commute challenging. They may decide to rely on transit or a ride from mom or dad.
Shopping, restaurants, and the medical clinic are all about 5 minutes away by car. And it only takes 10 minutes to drive to the nearby Langdale ferry terminal that connects the Sunshine Coast to the Lower Mainland.

If you favour hiking, whale watching, and stunning ocean and island views, Shaw and Gospel in Gibsons, BC is a neighbourhood worth checking out.
